Duplicating node tree in Slate Editor (3ds Max 2012)

I have a nicely arranged node tree which contains
several unlinked but still important nodes. I need
the whole view duplicated 16 times.

Things I’ve tried so far:

  • Apply material, create new view, pick material.
This method loses arrangement and unlinked nodes.

  • Maxscript can create new views but it seems
scripts can not add and manipulate actual nodes.

  • Mouse and keyboard macros: tried two apps but
both were imprecise and occasionally screwed up
drags (used for node linking and node resizing).

Any suggestions what else I could try?

Well, macro recorders do work, the problem was not
with them. As it turns out I recorded the node creation
process on a view which was panned, so it’s grid (where
nodes are snapped to) was not in the same position
as the grid in newly created views, breaking sync.

It is really great thing for me .I have a nicely arranged node tree which contains
several unlinked but still important nodes. If you have more information about this please share this.

I stumbled upon a better solution:

Select tree, duplicate it with shift+drag then while the
new set of nodes are still selected right click on one
and pick “Move tree to view…”. It transfers the
network so if only one node needs to be moved then
it must be isolated.
