Axis Animation - Systems Programmer

Axis Animation is seeking an experienced Systems Programmer to join our technical team. The primary focus of this position is to contribute to the design and implementation of future architecture permitting cross-platform, cross-media, cross-software and cross-site working.

The qualifying individual will be a key member on one project team so this is the perfect opportunity for someone to who loves working in a small team in a productive, collaborative, creative environment.

We’re especially interested in applicants with VFX/CG/Games industry experience.

The candidate will require expertise in planning, building and implementing new applications and features as well as contributing to architecture input on new systems and processes.

Candidates are required, and must be eligible at time of application, to work onsite in Glasgow, starting August for a minimum of 15 months.

Responsibilities :
• Research and examine current systems, tools, and processes
• Plan and estimate your work and think ahead about what your building, how it interacts with everything else that is being built
• Define requirements and features
• Write code across a variety of areas to enable cross-platform, cross-media, cross-software and cross-site working
• Work with project and studio management and other team members to prioritize tasks.
• Keep project and studio management and other team members informed of progress, changes and other critical issues.
• Test and modify systems to ensure that they operate reliably
• Fault finding and fixing.

Requirements and Skills :
• Bachelors in Computer Science or comparable professional experience
• Minimum 4 years experience in a professional programming environment
• Advanced knowledge of Linux server and desktop environments
• Solid knowledge of OSX and Windows platforms
• Solid programming experience with Python, and C++
• Some experience with Bash, Java or similar would be beneficial
• Experience building and operating high availability and high scalability computing systems
• Experience with VMware or OpenStack virtual infrastructures
• Knowledge of SQL databases: MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB
• Ability and desire to learn new technologies as required
• Ability to solve problems unsupervised and recommend proactive technical solutions
• Positive can-do attitude combined with the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
• Excellent communication and organizational skill with strong attention to detail
• Optional Skills that would be a plus:

  • Experience working in CG, VFX Games industry
  • Experience in key software packages including: Maya, Houdini, Mantra, Fusion, Nuke, Shotgun and Hiero
    • Must be able to prove eligibility for working in the UK
