Opinions on the Fabric engine?

I’m just curious if anyone uses Fabricand has opinions.

Same, I just got access to the Beta 2 with the hope to find a way to deal with Alembic import/export/updates, and so much more ! Anyone has remarks about stability and performance ?

I have heard it is extremely stable and awesome

Seriously though, there is a thread on si-community here where someone raised the subject. That’s all Fabric 1 related though…

Thanks for signing up to the beta and taking a look. There’s a lot of cool stuff coming, particular on the UI/UX side of things.

Cheers,

Paul

I would love to hear some concrete examples what people are using it for (especially in a game pipelines). While it looks really awesome, I do find it hard to see how and where it could make our pipeline easier and what I would really use it for.
I guess really the only clear things I see in the videos is that it’s easier to create tools cross platform (which in our studio isn’t a huge problem) and that you get the visual scripting aspect. I’m I missing something? I just really want to understand you guys intentions with the tool and what people are using it for

Best thing is just to read through the website: http://fabricengine.com/overview/ - there are customer stories on there as well.

You can distill Fabric down to four elements: Performance (it’s as fast as well-written C++), Ease of use, Portability (run in multiple DCCs/standalone) and Extensibility (hook in existing libraries etc).

So if you’re a studio using a single DCC where everyone can write C++ then maybe you just don’t need it  We’re going to show some game pipeline stuff at Siggraph and I’ll post back here with the videos when I have them.

Hi Paul,

I quickly looked at FE for 3dsMax over a year ago. Lately I had some time available and was wondering if FE 2.0 for max is something that is being actively developed, I couldn’t find any news or links on the matter. Is 3dsMax still a platform considered by FE? If not could you explain why?

Thanks!
-Johan

Yeah, I skimmed the web site and found no evidence of 3DS Max support -which makes it less appealing for our needs.

Hi - 3DS Max support is very close. If you sign up for the FE2 beta here: http://fabricengine.com/join-the-fabric-beta-program/ (mention tech-artists in one of the text fields) I’ll make sure you’re added and you’ll get access as soon as the first drop is there.

Thanks for the comments. Makes me realise we need a bit more information about supported (and soon to be supported) platforms.

Cheers,

Paul

Thanks Paul, great news, I’ve signed up!

Any one working in larger production houses can share their opinion, please? I’m very interested in FE, really want to know if people had been using it in production yet.

Same here - very interested to hear peoples opinions. Would love to look into it myself, hopefully will have an opportunity to at work in the not too distant future.

Anyone using this with the unreal implementation?
very interested if as much may simplify creating muscle system deformer solutions with splice in Maya that can be ported over?
