Lead real-time developer

Axis Animation is looking to hire an experienced and versatile LEAD REAL-TIME DEVELOPER to help drive the next generation of interactive and cinematics tools in animation, VFX, VR and theme-park design. This is a full-time role based in the new Real-time Unit at Axis Animation and a unique opportunity to shape the future of an animation studio.

As LEAD REAL-TIME DEVELOPER you will be responsible for developing and implementing new features and workflows to support projects with a real-time or interactive component. Working alongside lighting artists, modelers and technical directors, you will leverage real-time technology across the studio in departments such as Assets, Lighting and FX.

The Real-time Unit works alongside the Research and Development department, who collaborate with all departments to design, develop and maintain artist tools alongside core applications and services used by the studio.

Candidates are required and must be eligible at time of application to work on-site in Glasgow.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Implement, support and extend a real-time engine for use on real-time projects

Work with an agile and multi-disciplinary team of artists, designers, and programmers

Work with the Head of R&D in the development of project goals and milestones

Ensure tools and processes integrate into the overall studio pipeline

Test and debug tools and processes to ensure stability and usability

Act as a liaison for communicating technical issues to Production, R&D and IT

Educate artists on how to work with the cinematics pipeline

Create and update documentation explaining our processes and tools

REQUIRED

3+ years of real-time engine experience as an engine or graphics programmer

Experience with real-time engine scripting, building levels / mods

Experience developing plugins, shading models or tools for a real-time engine

Experience with one or more of Unreal, Unity or Cryengine

Experience with C++ or Python

Solid understanding of algorithms, physics and mathematics

Excellent communication, troubleshooting and debugging skills

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Be proactive

Be adaptable

STRONGLY PREFERRED

Experience developing with graphics APIs: DirectX, OpenGL, etc.

Experience using and programming real-time shaders: Cg, HLSL, GLSL

Demonstrated understanding of traditional animation or VFX pipelines and workflows

An interest in VR / AR
