Axis Animation seeks a dedicated TECHNICAL ARTIST to join our Real-time Unit to work alongside the Research and Development department, who collaborate with all other departments in the Studio to design, develop and maintain our artist tools, core applications and services.
As part of the Real-time team, you will be the first line of defense in diagnosing a problem, whether it be debugging a crash in Unreal or figuring out an issue with 3ds Max / Maya. Our Real-time Unit is responsible for delivering technical solutions to creative challenges on projects with a real-time component, contributing directly to the success of our shows.

Candidates are required and must be eligible at time of application to work on-site in Glasgow.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide tech support to artists and teams
Develop tools using Python, MaxScript, and C++
Create and optimize project shaders
Be willing to work with other departments to develop pipelines and, in some cases, be able to act as a mediator between disciplines to come up with solutions
Help the Lead to develop content creation guidelines and help enforce them through the use of tools and reminders
Do profiling and content optimization for memory and performance gains
Work with R&D to develop risk / reward analysis on project features
REQUIRED
Experience with one or more of Unreal, Unity or CryEngine
Experience with C++ or Python
Working knowledge of one or more 3D packages (cross-pipeline)
Good troubleshooting and debugging skills
Solid understanding of algorithms, physics and mathematics
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Be proactive
Be adaptable
STRONGLY PREFERRED
Experience with UE4
Familiarity with CG-oriented programming languages, image manipulation and compression, video game hardware, advanced shading techniques, particle systems, character skeletons and kinematics, command line systems, and real-time lighting
Demonstrated ability for creative solutions to technical challenges within tight deadlines
Demonstrated understanding of traditional animation or VFX pipelines and workflows
An interest in VR / AR
