Talk:Normal Map

From Tech Artists Wiki

A couple things to note about the article:

  • Please don't use HTML tags and avoid the use of <br>'s if at all possible.
  • Try to reference other Wiki articles as well, even if they are not written. It will be much better to have a broken link than a link that never will be.
  • Don't throw everything tangentially related to normal mapping in this article. Topics such as compression should have their own articles, and more general topics (such as the breaking of normals/duplication of verts) should probably be their own articles, with some minor specific information in the Normal Map article.

While it may make it a bit more work to make this article in particular, it will make future articles much easier to write, and reduce the duplication of information; it will also allow readers to much more clearly and easily search for and find information and allow other articles to link more successfully to useful information that otherwise would be lost in this article. Good work so far.RobGalanakis-3 01:34, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

All good points, makes sense. I do need <br clear="all"/> to stop image-float before the next headline, though maybe I could use wiki code {{Clr}} or {{-}} instead (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Extended_image_syntax#Cancelling_floating-around-image_mode). --EricChadwick 13:30, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

Nope, {{Clr}} and {{-}} don't work. Will remove the extra <br/>s though, move sections to new articles, and crosslink.--EricChadwick 13:35, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

Hey, I added a Tutorials section to the Polycount wiki, to collate the tutorial links scattered throughout the page and to add a couple more. What do you think is the best place for this in the TAO wiki? The normalmap page is really big as-is, I'm not sure if it warrants adding another section.--EricChadwick 13:29, 6 September 2008 (UTC)
