Still a Technical Art GENERALIST at heart!
- Love Coding and making pipelines and tools but not a programmer
- Enjoy doing some VFX but more the R&D side and not the visionary
- UI was actually a lot of fun to work on but only dabbled
- I’ve looked at shader code - and thought ehh someone with more artistic cravings to push it over the mark is better suited than me - so only just a tiny dip in
- Ended up with way too much character and animation based experience… its like the song Hotel California - you can check in any time you like (Me - sure I know some rigging you can loan me to another project… hahaha) and still ending up in those areas years later despite attempts to get out and play in other playgrounds…
- Procedural stuff like Houdini tools - made one cool too thought wow that’s a cliff of a learning curve and was sucked back into… .you guessed it Rigging! (Though at least with rigging you get to make auto riggers and that’s coding!)
- Ah Performance - not going to lie like tools that tattle and have not delved much into the guts of this past working with Programmers to start helping define etc - it’s a tough nut to crack with a lot of parts. Haven’t ever fully been under this bus just dipped a toe in here and there.
I think this all sums up to - I think I’m a Rigger/Tech Animator now?! Who just gets to look at the fun shinnies from afar, and still dreams of the days when I got to make tools and do generalist jack of all trades kind of stuff. Also been doing it for around 20 years so I’m ok with that!
