[Maya] Does Smooth Skinning™ follow Linear Skinning Algorithm?

Looking at creating a tool for skinning, I am wondering what Algorithm they use for their “Smooth Skinning™” I could not find the answer, they just call it “Smooth Skinning” looking at their calculations it looks like LSA. Reason being we’re looking at better ways to Automate skinning.
