This coming Thursday, October 17, we’re going to be hosting online techart portfolio review sessions. We have two sessions, one intended for people in European time zones and another for North America:
In both cases, we’ll have an hour video call (links above), which we expect to give us times for around four reviews in each session. Each session will have 2 or 3 volunteer reviewers who provide feedback and comments.
This is our first pass at this process so we should expect it to be a little rocky. We also know that we’ll probably have more resumes than time. Please reply to this thread (with your session preference) and we’ll use the priority of those reviews to populate our queue. Our intention is to repeat this process at regular intervals throughout the year so if you end up as the 99th person to respond, don’t despair – we’ll hopefully get to you in the future. Our hope is that even if your own resume doesn’t make it into this session you’ll learn a lot by seeing all the other reviews
Because we do think there’s a lot of value in seeing comments on other’s resumes as well as your own, please be aware that this process will involve showing your resume publicly to everyone in the video calls!
Thanks to our volunteer reviewers and looking forward to seeing you all on the 17th! After it’s over please leave any comments or suggestions on how we can improve the session in this thread.
I’d like to join the European session, as a viewer! or if needed i can give some feedback on portfolios if someone want to be Houdini Technical Artist.
I’m not currently planning on recording these – this is our first run, and we want to get a sense for what to expect (plus I’d actually have to look into the legality of recording a European session, GDPR might actually make it legally dicey).
I’ll start the google meet but this is the middle of my work day, so I’ll turn one of the reviewers into a host. I’ll probably hang in the chat to observe. Unless the group changes its mind, we should take our resumes in order of the signups. As already noted, this is our first one, if it runs long and we don’t get a chance to visit everybody’s stuff, we will give priority to folks who have already signed up in the next session we run.
Reviewers – please shoot for 10~15 minutes per person so we can keep it moving.
Portfolio folks – please have materials you want to share ready to go. You can post links in chat or screen share.
Everybody: we’re doing this open so everyone can learn. Please treat this as NDA’d!
Since this is our first run we don’t quite know how it’ll go, would appreciate feedback and suggestions here after the session so we can improve the format.
Thanks to the volunteer reviewers and the brave guinea pigs for sharing!
